Metal Treatment System (MTS) installs rotary retort furnace system to produce high quality fasteners and hardware

Metal Treatment Services (MTS) is an Australian contract heat treating company located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. When they made the decision to expand, they approached SECO/WARWICK with a view to partnering. MTS has many years experience in running continuous rotary retort furnace lines, and SECO/WARWICK has expertise in state of the art control systems and furnace construction.  The end result exceeded all expectations, the line has consistently produced high quality fasteners and hardware.

The new rotary furnace line with a nominal capacity of 200 kilograms per hour, consists of a rotary retort hardening furnace charged by a tipping batch bucket which discharges into a quench tank, extracted by a mesh belt from the tank, fed into a rotary two stage washing machine then passing into a mesh belt conveyor tempering furnace which has the ability to blacken the product as it exits.

The complete process is controlled by an Allen Bradley SLC5 programmable logic controller with Wonderware™ software used to enable operators to visually observe the entire process in real time and historically.
