RASA ALÜMİNYUM RADYATÖR SANAYİ A.Ş., a Turkish manufacturer of industrial cooling systems and various types of heat exchangers, has ordered a universal CAB batch furnace with a vacuum purging system from SECO/WARWICK. The solution will increase production capacity, expand the company’s plate-bar heat exchanger offering, and provide a technological foundation for the continued development of its new plant.

RASA ALÜMİNYUM selected SECO/WARWICK’s Universal CAB Batch Furnace to enhance production flexibility, quality, and capacity for diverse heat exchanger types at their new Turkish facility. The system combines several features that support both current production needs and future growth:

  • The furnace supports various heat exchanger types and orientations.
  • Vacuum purging improves atmosphere quality and reduces nitrogen use.
  • The system offers future scalability to a semi-continuous process.
  • Convection heating/cooling ensures uniform, efficient brazing.

This is the first contract between SECO/WARWICK and this customer. RASA, however, was already familiar with the Group’s technology through CAB equipment operating at other manufacturers in Turkey.

The new furnace will be used primarily for brazing large heat exchangers in the recommended vertical position. Thanks to its universal design, it will also enable the processing of standard fin-tube exchangers and plate heat exchangers. The scope of delivery will include a CAB batch furnace with a dryer, a final cooling chamber, and an external transport system.

Versatile Technology That Meets the Needs of the Heavy-Duty Market

The Turkish plant’s investment is connected with expanding production capacity, building a new facility, and broadening its product portfolio. Heat exchangers for the heavy-duty, aftermarket and industrial markets require flexible technology because individual products differ in geometry, weight, size and process parameters. In such conditions, brazing quality matters, but so does the ability to quickly adapt the equipment to changing product types.

“Today’s heat exchanger market needs technologies that combine high process quality with flexibility. The Universal CAB Batch Furnace is an excellent solution for manufacturers who want to braze large plate-bar heat exchangers while remaining open to multiple product types. This furnace can process plate-bar, fin-tube, and plate heat exchangers in both vertical and horizontal positions. For the customer, this means greater production freedom, shorter process times, and the ability to further increase capacity in the future,” says Piotr Skarbiński, Vice President of the Aluminum Process and CAB Products Segment at the SECO/WARWICK Group.

CAB technology, (Controlled Atmosphere Brazing), is one of the key processes in the industrial production of aluminum heat exchangers. It enables durable, leak-tight, and repeatable aluminum joints to be produced in a controlled protective atmosphere. For manufacturers of radiators and heat exchangers, this translates into stable quality and greater process predictability.

The importance of such technologies is growing along with the thermal management market. According to available analyses, the global heat exchanger market is expected to grow in the coming years, driven in part by demand for energy efficiency and the development of industry, transportation, energy and cooling systems. Requirements are also increasing for heat exchangers used in vehicles, work machines, industrial installations and drive systems, where reliable cooling has a direct impact on the operation of the entire system.

Vacuum Purging for Atmosphere Quality and Lower Nitrogen Consumption

The key feature of the solution to be delivered will be the vacuum purging system installed in the purging and atmospheric cooling chamber. Its purpose is to ensure very high protective atmosphere quality and to effectively evacuate oxygen from inside the product before the brazing process. This is particularly important for large plate-bar exchangers, where the geometry of the internal channels can make rapid and complete oxygen removal difficult. The vacuum purging system provides better atmosphere control compared with standard purging, while also reducing nitrogen consumption. For the manufacturer, this means improved process conditions, greater product cleanliness, and better operating economics.

“When brazing large plate-bar heat exchangers, protective atmosphere quality is one of the key factors influencing the process result. Vacuum purging effectively removes oxygen from inside the product and stabilizes conditions before brazing. At the same time, it reduces nitrogen consumption compared with standard purging systems. This is a specific technological advantage because the customer receives not only process repeatability, but also lower operating costs,” emphasizes Maciej Stempniewicz, Deputy Director of CAB Sales, Aluminum and CAB Department.

RASA ALÜMİNYUM RADYATÖR SANAYİ A.Ş. was influenced primarily by SECO/WARWICK technology advantages: convection heating and cooling, short process time, very high protective atmosphere quality, a modern control system, and the ability to expand the furnace from a batch system to a semi-continuous solution. The customer already had CAB equipment from another supplier, but the parameters and flexibility of the Universal CAB Batch Furnace convinced RASA to choose SECO/WARWICK technology.

Convection heating supports uniform heating of components, including larger ones. Convection cooling helps shorten cycle time, while the control system enables stable process management and precise parameter control. For RASA, this means the ability to increase efficiency while maintaining high brazing quality.

Potential for Further Expansion

The Universal CAB Batch Furnace is a batch solution, but its design enables future expansion into a semi-continuous system. This is important for manufacturers who currently need flexibility and control over investment while also planning for higher volumes. In RASA’s case, this capability is particularly significant because the purchase is connected with the investment in a new plant, and the expansion of the company’s product offering.
